Unwavering Support For Uncommon Heroes®
For more than 100 years, the VFW Auxiliary has united individuals from all walks of life with a common purpose: to improve the lives of veterans, service members, their families, and our communities. We are one of America's oldest and largest veterans service organizations, with nearly 470,000 members in over 3,600 auxiliaries nationwide.
VFW Auxiliary 1523 serves the veterans and families of the Putnam, Connecticut region alongside VFW Post 1523. Our members volunteer, advocate, and give — because the men and women who served this nation deserve unwavering support.
Membership is open to relatives of VFW-eligible veterans — those who served overseas in a foreign conflict. If someone in your family served, you likely qualify.

Since 1922, red poppies assembled by disabled veterans have honored the fallen and supported veteran families. We distribute poppies before Memorial Day — look for us in the community.
Our members volunteer at VA medical centers and veterans' homes — providing comfort, companionship, and direct service to hospitalized veterans and their families.
We promote patriotic values, proper flag etiquette, POW/MIA ceremonies, and civic education in our schools and community throughout the year.
We support youth programs including the Voice of Democracy, Patriot's Pen, and the Young American Creative Patriotic Art contest — plus continuing education scholarships for members.
We mobilize members to contact legislators on issues affecting veterans and their families — ensuring the veteran voice is heard at every level of government.
Proceeds from Buddy Poppy distributions support the VFW National Home in Michigan — providing rent-free housing and support services for military and veteran families in need.
